A Rainy Wedding Day Means Good Luck for the Bride and Groom

rain on your wedding day means good luck

Rain on your wedding day is a symbol of good fortune!

Our staff in Colorado can’t help but worry about all the victims of the wildfires in Boulder, Colorado Springs and Ft. Collins. Some of us are personally impacted or know someone who is.

While Coloradans have banded together to pray for rain to help ease weather conditions, we couldn’t help but wonder the meaning of rain. After all, every bride has heard that it’s considered “lucky” if it rains on her wedding day. Is such a superstition true?

In our research, we learned that rain is a symbol of many things.

For one, it brings moisture to dry areas, which can create life and help plants grow and animals hydrate. Rain and water are essential to life on earth.

Further, rain is often considered a symbol of fertility. Water helps things grow. A couple may hope that one day their marriage will be blessed with children.

Rain also is symbolic of a new start. The water can cleanse the earth and help wash away past debris. A marriage is a new start for a couple. If it rains on your wedding day, consider yourself blessed with a clean slate.

Remember, if it rains on your wedding day, don’t be bummed; rather consider your marriage to be blessed with good fortune. Just make sure if you decide to take pictures outside in the rain, bring along a beautiful umbrella to match or contrast your gorgeous wedding dress. Consider an umbrella one of your must-have wedding accessories if you think there is a chance for rain on your wedding day.

Oh, and if you want to know your best chances to have a “rainy” wedding day, reference the Farmer’s Almanac to see which days offer the best chance of precipitation. Good luck!

Please leave us a comment. LWD Brides, did it rain on your wedding day? If yes, how did you cope?

It rained on my wedding day at the beach. The wind was to strong for umbrellas so we prepared with water proof cameras and prepared themusic with water proof stuff. Noone wanted to attend but a limited few. We got drenched and had our first dances in the rain. It was amazing and I wouldn’t take it back for anything.

It rained on our wedding day in 2013. We had planned to take pics at an outdoor park between the ceremony and reception. Since that was out due to the rain, driver suggested the mall. it turned out to be the best thing! We have some of the most awesome thing original pictures I’ve ever seen for a wedding. Hanging out in front of the fountain, lining staircase and my.favorite…the entire wedding party jumped on a bed in JC Penney…and the bed happened to match my bridesmaids dresses!!! Good memories!

It rained on our wedding day Sept. 14th 2013. We had an outdoor ceremony in Mt Charleston in Las Vegas. It rained pretty heavy through out the day and cleared up just before the ceremony. I was so worried about the rain, everyone just kept telling me it was good luck. It started to sprinkling just as we started our vows, and stopped just after. It was perfect! The clouds made the photographer happy, she said it is a photographers dream. The photos I have seen are amazing. It was the best day of my life! Everything happened for a reason!

It rained on our wedding day 28 years ago. Heavy downpour in the morning. I had heard it was good luck. Well, we have had our ups and downs, that is for sure. But, overall, God definitely has blessed our union, and so yes! It IS good luck to have it rain on your wedding day! :)

We were married on February 16, 1974. It was a cloudy day and rained. Then the sky cleared and the sun came out. We have been married 40 years and have 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren. Rain is truly a sign of washing of the old and breathing new life into the earth. I love the smell of rain.

My wife shelley and i will be celebrating our 20 year wedding anniversary tomorrow, may 14. We were making plans for the evening when she realized it was supposed to rain. I reminded her that it rained on our wedding day, at the beach, and that it was said to be good luck. She’d never heard of that before and in search of proof i stumbled across this site. I read her the comments and she is now looking forward to our rainy anniversary as well! Kudos to everyone who this strange act of nature has and will bless.

my daughter has torrential rain on her wedding day and they have the happiest marriage i have ever seen, the rain stopped for 1 hour when the photos were being taken and the photos are beautiful and sparkly with rain drops and the grass is lush green

The same happened for us. Right when the outdoor ceremony started the rain stopped until we were ready to clean up. This is also when the wind picked up a bit. My 17 year old daughter simply said the rains means good luck. She also said to me, “mom since rain is your favorite maybe uncle Joe and niece Julianna sent you rain as your wedding gift. And the wind were them two blowing you kisses from heavrn”.

To me that sealed my fate and Bill and I are truly blessed with treasures from heaven. We would never ask for a better day. Heres to many years of love!

Hey Everyone! I got married on May 16th 2014, and it poured down on the morning of the wedding. I cried and cried because my wedding ceremony was at a park. That morning was dark, gloomy and humid but I prayed to God to soak up the rain because of the fact that we would be outdoors. Once I got my hair and make up done, and wore my dress, I peeked outside and the water seemed to just evaporate before my eyes. It was amazing. The rest of the day was sunny and the reception was even better. Since before the wedding and even after the wedding I find it so ironic that it rains on any function that we have. But we have always been blessed through this.

Today my husband and I have been married 30 years. We had severe storms the night of our rehearsal dinner and rain the morning of our wedding day. It’s raining today I hope that means we will have 30 more years together!

It rained early the day of April 25,2015. I asked God to let it be a beautiful day for us in it was I didn’t let the rain stop us from doing the right thing. I’m glad that the day went so wonderful for us. I married the man that I have been praying for. I thank God for him.

  15. Nicole Piper-Simmons says:

We picked May 23rd, 2015 for the best day ever!
May, memorial day weekend. Besides the obvious day to celebrate, my fiancé and I had another meaningful reason for our chosen date. But either way, you’d expect it to be warm or hot; especially outside. So as we spends MONTHS prepping a diy, outdoor wedding, the date gets closer and I’m getting updates as well as looking at the weather. And the percentage of yes just kept fluctuating, but always towards a higher, “yep. It’s gonna rain.” So, with the help of amazing friends and family, we arranged for the reception and ceremony to both be held inside. Not tent, or church inside. But, can fit at least two to three midsized SUVs. And while this was 45 mins from our home town, our entire STATE made a record of flooding. And while we got lucky, and had spurts of rain break, it started and for the most part increased into a flat out down poor. This caused a lot of people the need to leave after the ceremony, which was understandable, a lot of people stayed and it was all around beautiful and amazing. Not exactly as planned, but our friends and family did an incredibly amazing job of making EVERYTHING completely gorgeous! And, as cheesy as it sounds, my wife and I both genuinely feel free and that “fresh start”, refreshing feeling. I love the fact that it rained on our day! It couldn’t have been so perfect!

Our wedding was on May 16 2015 and it rained.. Some of plans had to change due to the rain & I was worried about it. I in fact thought it’s a bad luck too. But after reading these comments I’m happy !! Everything happens for a reason…

My son will marry in 2days and they are likely to have rain. We were married 35 yrs ago this Aug. The wk prior to our wedding a friend was married in blistering heat. The only reception hall in our small town was not air conditioned and people left the reception early due to heat. I prayed all week for snow (Aug wedding in Midwest). Our wedding day was cool and very very rainy. Be careful for what you wish for!! Our reception hall was cool and people stayed and had a wonderful time. We left at midnight and my father-in-law was paying the band more money, again, to keep the party going! FYI, my oldest son was married on a rainy day three yrs ago. If it rains consider yourself blessed!
