Giving Back

Together with our fundamental business values to empower women by feeling welcome, acknowledged, heard and respected in our bridal salon, we believe that individually, and as a family-owned small business, we have a responsibility to do what we can to make the world a better place by our own actions, and by our annual donations to non-profits and charities who are dedicated to Peace, People and our Planet. Please read below for information on the non-profits we donate to, as well as our everyday actions and considerations for giving back.

PEACE

Mercy CorpsFounded in 1979, and chosen as one of the 9 best charities that promote global peace in 2023 by Charity Navigator, the Mercy Corps provide peacebuilding support and aid to countries around the globe, particularly those affected by natural disasters and armed conflict.  Today they operate in over 40 countries offering peace solutions and conflict resolution through education and training.

At LWD, we prioritize peaceful, respectful and professional resolution of any misunderstandings, miscommunications, or conflicts in our daily operations amongst our team and designers, and between our business and our customers.  Our team, managers and owners are solution-oriented, and are always available to listen and address any concerns our customers may have.

PEOPLE

Beautifully BrokenSince 2016, Beautifully Broken has embedded themselves in halfway houses, women’s shelters, and women’s correctional facilities to provide the women within them the opportunity to heal through art therapy sessions.  They focus on women who are hurting and heavy with their circumstances in providing them a safe place to learn to create something beautiful, and that in their brokenness they are beautiful individuals who can grow and heal and help other women who are broken.  Beautifully Broken also partners with reentry organizations like the Women’s Bean Project, Second Chance Center, and The Empowerment Program to assist marginalized women in returning to the workforce.

Many of our sample gowns are donated to Church Street Bridal, and all proceeds from those sales support YWCA, whose mission is to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families and strengthen communities. They are one of the oldest and largest women’s organizations in the nation, serving more than 2 million women, girls and their families.

PLANET

The Nature Conservancy Officially formed in 1951, The Nature Conservancy began when leading scientists, committed citizens and dedicated leaders came together with a shared vision to protect and care for nature.  Today, as they take on the most complex environmental challenges of our lives, their diverse staff, partners and members impact conservation across more than 70 countries and territories.  Through land acquisitions and conservation easements, and together with communities and other conservation partners, the designation of national parks and preserves, The Nature Conservancy helps to protect the lands and water upon which all life depends.

Wedding gowns are not ‘fast fashion’.  Each of our high-quality gowns is individually made to be the most special article of clothing our brides will wear in their lifetime.  They are made to last decades, to be a family heirloom, to be repurposed, or re-worn.  Our designers employ artisans around the world, and we work with companies with traceable and ethical standards including using environmentally conscious shipping products and processes, and sourcing local materials and using organic and natural fabrics such as cotton and silk rather than nylon and polyester whenever possible.

We have evaluated every detail of our daily business operations and we recycle, repurpose, avoid plastic and more.  Please contact us if you would like a complete list of our environmentally conscious practices.
